About us
Duo Euphonic Blend is a low brass duo originally from Pirkanmaa, Finland. The Duo consists of Nuppu and Aksel Salmioranta, who are also a couple off the stage. The Duo plays all kinds of music from traditional classical to more groovy music and popular music. The idea for this duo originated from a dream to share the joy of music together as well as to make low brass instruments and brass music more widely known. Most of the time the instrumentation in the Duo is euphonium and tuba, but other combinations, such as trombone and tuba, are also possible. This can be also seen from the name of the ensemble, ”Duo Euphonic Blend”. (Blend = an english word that refers to a mixture of different styles or things) The name is also ambiguous, since it points out the duo’s unique combination of professionality and personality – Nuppu and Aksel are at the same time working as a professional colleagues but also as a married couple.
Both of the members began their musical career in Tampere – Aksel at the Pirkanmaa Music Institute and Nuppu at the Tampere Conservatory of Music. Through different paths they both ended up studying in the Sibelius Academy, University of Arts in Helsinki, Finland and later also in the Anton Bruckner Private University in Linz, Austria. The couple has also competed in international competitions both individually and as a duo with success.
Duo Euphonic Blend’s repertoire is remarkably wide because almost everything fits to this combination of instruments. The Duo has their own repertoire composed by the Duo’s euphonium player Aksel but they also play famous classical pieces, popular music and famous ”standards” arranged for brass duo. In addition there is also original music composed for brass duo in their repertoire as well as more contemporary music for those who enjoy it. Since Aksel likes to arrange and compose, the Duo can fulfill almost any pieces that the audience asks beforehand.
Duo Euphonic Blend regularly gives concerts in Finland.
Additionally the Duo has also given concerts in Austria.
